Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2025–26

Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2025–26

Dates: December 12, 2025 – March 31, 2026
Location: Fort Kochi, Kerala

The Kochi-Muziris Biennale returns this winter to transform Fort Kochi into a vibrant hub of contemporary art. Over 110 days, Kochi’s historic streets, waterfronts, and heritage sites will become stages for performances, conversations, and installations that redefine how art can be experienced in public space.

What Is the Kochi-Muziris Biennale?

Launched in 2012, the Biennale has grown into South Asia’s most celebrated platform for contemporary art. Hosted in the historic port city of Kochi — once shaped by centuries of trade and cultural exchange — it merges global and local narratives. Artist-led and site-responsive, the Biennale is deeply rooted in community engagement, making it a cultural event where process, collaboration, and dialogue matter as much as the finished work.

Theme for 2025–26: For the Time Being

Curated by artist Nikhil Chopra with HH Art Spaces, the upcoming edition is imagined as a living ecosystem. Works will unfold across time, shaped by collective energy, long-standing friendships, and collaborative practice.

Audiences can expect:
→ A 110-day celebration from December 12, 2025 to March 31, 2026
→ Live performances, film screenings, artist talks, and workshops
→ The Students’ Biennale, spotlighting emerging voices
→ Heritage venues reimagined as immersive spaces

Note: Venue lists and special announcements (such as government acquisition of spaces) will be confirmed closer to the event.

Why the Kochi Biennale 2025 Matters

Community-driven approach: From local residents to schoolchildren, participation remains central.
Art within history: Against the backdrop of Kochi’s layered heritage, contemporary practices acquire new depth.
Unpredictable encounters: Expect spontaneous performances, evolving installations, and intimate moments with artists at work.
