ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Emergence – 1 explores the hidden energy through which life takes form and rises from the depths of the earth. Flowing organic forms unfold across layered spaces, suggesting growth, transformation and the continuous relationship between the visible and the unseen.

Earthy browns and warm orange tones contrast with vibrant green forms, creating a sense of movement and renewal. The composition evokes the quiet force beneath nature—the energy that allows life to emerge, evolve and connect.

Through biomorphic abstraction, Dr. Shagufta Khanam invites viewers to contemplate the unseen processes that sustain the natural world and the interconnected rhythms of life.

PROCESS AND TECHIQUES

Dr. Shagufta Khanam combines acrylic and oil on canvas to create layered abstract compositions characterised by flowing contours, organic forms and subtle transitions of colour. In Emergence – 1, sweeping bands of earthy colour contrast with green forms and delicate outlined details, creating a sense of depth, movement and organic growth.

" My paintings are an attempt to make the invisible connection perceptible—not by showing nature as it appears on the surface, but by exploring what lies beneath it: its depth, its energy, its hidden stories, its structures, its connections and its quiet rhythm. "
