Nature is often understood through what we can see: its forms, textures, patterns and movements. Yet beneath this visible world exists another dimension, one shaped by invisible connections, energies and rhythms.

In Resonance – 18, Shagufta Khanam explores this relationship between the visible and the unseen. Layered organic structures come together to suggest an inner landscape where different forms coexist, interact and continuously transform.

The work encourages a slower way of looking, inviting viewers to experience nature not simply as something external, but as an interconnected system of movement and energy. Its abstract composition creates space for personal interpretation, reflection and a meditative engagement with the natural world.

The painting begins with successive acrylic underpainting layers, using burnt umber and burnt sienna to establish the tonal foundation and underlying compositional structure. These warm earth pigments create depth and tonal variation while defining the principal forms. Subsequent layers of paint are built through controlled applications of colour, layering and textural modulation. Oil paint is then introduced to develop greater chromatic richness, refine transitions and add depth to selected areas. The interplay between the acrylic base and oil applications creates a nuanced surface, balancing the immediacy of the underpainting with the richness and fluidity of oil. The resulting composition brings together layered abstraction, organic forms and a distinctive sense of visual movement.
